Quess was built around the rules that make chess work in the first place. You still plan ahead, protect your pieces, and look for weaknesses. The difference is that you are no longer playing against just one opponent. With four players moving clockwise, every decision has consequences beyond the player directly in front of you. A move that looks strong against one opponent can create an opening for another. That is where Quess begins to separate itself from traditional two-player chess.

HOW TO PLAY QUESS

You already know how the pieces move. The real adjustment is learning to read all four sides of the board. Watch what each player is developing. Pay attention to threats that may not be aimed at you yet. Think about what your move gives the other players, not just what it takes from the player you are attacking. In Quess, playing your position is only part of the game. You also have to understand the positions developing around you.

Is Quess just four-player chess?
Quess is a four-player strategy game built closely around the classic rules of chess. The core rules and piece movement remain familiar, while the four-player board requires specific adjustments to pawn promotion and introduces Stasis Check and Checkmate.

When a pawn enters an enemy domain by capturing a piece, it continues forward through that domain until it is promoted. This adapts the familiar promotion rule to the four-player board.=
Stasis applies when the threat comes from a player who is not immediately to the right. This gives another player the opportunity to foil the Check or Checkmate before the threatened player’s turn.
The player is eliminated, and all of that player’s remaining pieces are removed from the board. The game continues with the remaining players until there is one winner.
